Patrick BRÉZILLON: Career in short

Home page - Professional site

The full CV is available at http://www-poleia.lip6.fr/~brezil/ . The CV presents the scientific production (publications, teaching activities, Ph.D. students, conference organization, etc.) and his intervention in the administration of the research (participation in several Boards of the laboratory, expert for the European Community and the French Foreign Ministry, etc.). The scientific part of the activity of P. Brézillon--a detailed appraisal of the research and the perspectives-- is presented at http://www-poleia.lip6.fr/~brezil/DR2-2002/ (in French).

Briefly, P. Brézillon is researcher at the National Center for the Scientific Research (the French acronym is CNRS) that focuses on Artificial Intelligence and related domains as Cognitive Ergonomics. His whole research is lead in the framework of real-world applications and is acknowledged internationally.

Initially, his research started on the mathematical modeling of living systems. P. Brézillon thus is familiar with the medical domain under its practical and research aspects. After, P. Brézillon worked at the R & D Department of EDF (the French power company), in the one hand, on quadratic programming under linear constraints, and, in the other hand, on the design and development of an expert system for equipment diagnosis on Extra High Voltage substations. Later, he worked for other companies (nuclear plant, Banque de France, etc.). Now P. Brézillon work on an application to support the responsible of subway lines for the subway companies in Paris (RATP) and in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).

Since the last ten years, P. Brézillon focuses on the notion of context in order to model and use context in real-world applications. P. Brézillon is one of the main instigators of the emergence of this problematic at the national and international levels. This focus of attention is ascribed in the more general framework of Context-based Intelligent Assistant Systems. The last application in this framework is presented at http://www.lip6.fr/SART (retained as a leading project by the French Foreign Ministry). At the national level, P. Brézillon is currently acting for developing a community around the notion of context (see last information at http://www-poleia.lip6.fr/~brezil/MUCA/ ). Now, P. Brézillon's interest for the notion of context concerns the context-based representation of knowledge (with a formalism called contextual graphs) and the intervention of the context in human-computer interaction (for stand-alone systems as well as Computer Supported Cooperative Work) in a clear "user-centered" approach.
